Executive Assessment

Executive assessment here means a structured read of one senior leader or candidate before you commit to a hire, a promotion or a development budget.

Executive assessment — a written assessment report open on a desk beside two chairs set for a feedback conversation, Canada

Key takeaways

  • The report ends in a recommendation, not a profile: proceed, proceed with a named condition, or do not.
  • This is not a personality test. It starts from the role and the three hardest decisions the seat will demand in year one.
  • A written report inside ten business days, built to be acted on rather than filed.
  • The person assessed always gets a feedback session, even when the answer is no.

Executive assessment here means a structured read of one senior leader or candidate before you commit to a hire, a promotion or a development budget. It is a decision-support document, written to be acted on.

A quick note, because the name is shared. "Executive Assessment" is also an admissions test for executive MBA programs. This page is not about that test. This is leadership assessment for an employer making a hiring or promotion decision.

What this covers

  • Built around the 3 hardest decisions the role will face in its first year, named by you
  • A written report with one clear recommendation, delivered within 10 business days
  • Works the same for a hire, a promotion or a development decision
  • A feedback session with the person assessed in every case, including a negative recommendation
  • Behavior under real business pressure examined through structured interview, not a personality quiz
  • Feeds directly into a development plan if the decision is to proceed

What gets assessed

Not a personality type. The assessment starts with the role: you name the three hardest decisions the person in that seat will have to make in their first year. Everything else is built against those. Structured interviews probe how the leader has handled comparable decisions, what they did when the information was incomplete, and what they did when they were wrong.

Where a 360 or a published assessment tool is useful, it is named in the scope before we start, along with what it does and does not measure. Owners often ask for 360 feedback specifically. An instrument is an input to the judgement, not the judgement.

What you get

A written report within ten business days with a recommendation: proceed, proceed with a named development condition, or do not proceed. Reports that carefully avoid a recommendation are common in this field and leave you exactly where you started.

A feedback session with the assessed leader follows, in every case, including when the recommendation is negative. Assessing someone and never speaking to them about it is not something we do.

What this is not

It is a business and behavioral assessment, not psychological testing. The report describes what we observed about how the person reasons and decides. The hiring decision stays yours.

Alternatives

Leadership development consulting when the decision is already to invest rather than to select. Executive team coaching when you are assessing a group dynamic rather than one person. Management coaching when the person assessed is newly promoted and the gap is a transition rather than a fit.
